Denver outlasts UMD in double-overtime to advance to WCHA championship game

It took double-overtime to settle the first WCHA Final Five semifinal game as Denver defeated Minnesota-Duluth, 4-3 at Xcel Energy Center. Zac Larraza scored the game-winning goal. The Pioneers await the winner of Minnesota-North Dakota for the WCHA Final Five championship game.

North Dakota trailed the Gophers 3-1 after two periods before storming back with five goals in the third en route to a 6-3 semifinal win over the Gophers in the WCHA Final Five. Kyle Rau, Jake Hansen and Zach Budish scored for Minnesota. UND will play Denver in the Final Five championship game Saturday night.

Important WCHA games this weekend

There isn't a lot of separation in the WCHA standings, and that's why all five conference battles this weekend are important. Only two points separate the first place Gophers and second place UMD Bulldogs. Minnesota has a home-and-home with SCSU while UMD hosts Michigan Tech.

Gophers fall to Denver, 5-3

In the WCHA last night the Gophers lost in Denver by a score of 5-to-3. Kyle Rau, Nate Condon and Zach Budish scored for Minnesota. Minnesota Wild prospect Jason Zucker scored for Denver, and he also drew a game misconduct penalty on Rau.
