Drive before you fly: New golf practice facility to open at MSP Airport

Golf fans will be able to work on their swing before they take wing thanks to a new store opening soon at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport.

The PGA teamed up with Twin Cities firm Wexford Golf to create a "golf lifestyle facility" at the airport, complete with golf simulators, custom club fitting, professional tuition, a putting green and a virtual driving range.

With a bar and restaurant called the Champions' Grille also located in the 12,000-square-foot unit, the PGA says its the "first such concept of its kind located in a U.S. airport," and it's expected to open next month.

Although access to the grill and merchandise store will be free of charge, there will be a $10 fee to enter the golf practice facility.

Nonetheless, it will provide another option for passengers stuck for something to do as they wait for their flights –delayed passengers could probably get 18 holes in.

The Business Journal notes PGA MSP Airport will be located at the north end of Terminal 1, on the second floor.

It comes as the eyes of the golfing world fall on Minnesota in fall 2016, when Hazeltine National in Chaska hosts the 41st Ryder Cup.

Captain Davis Love III and the rest of Team USA might consider stopping off in the PGA store when they land at MSP, since they've lost the previous three Ryder Cups to Europe.
