A parks worker in Fargo is said to have been fired from his job after he was arrested for allegedly being drunk while driving a Zamboni during a girls hockey game.

Spectators and school officials noticed the Zamboni being driven erratically, the Fargo Forum reports, during the game between Davies High School and Williston High School at the South Arena.

“I’ve been here for 22 years … and we have not had an incident like this before,” Jim Larson, of the Fargo Park District – which operates the arena – told the newspaper.

"We’ll review the situation to determine how this happened and what we can do to make it even more fool proof," he added.

The driver was arrested during the game at around 8.15 p.m. Friday night, and KFGO News claims he has been released from his part-time position at the Park District.

Deadspin reports that the girls had to finish their game on "rough ice", with coaches making the decision rather than waiting for another Zamboni operator to arrive at the arena.

The driver has been arrested on suspicion of

The incident bears hallmarks to the case of Joel Bruss, who in 2012 was sentenced to two years of probation for operating a Zamboni while intoxicated at an arena in Apple Valley, Minnesota, as reported in the Pioneer Press.
