Top-ranked Edina won its second consecutive state boys hockey championship Saturday night, routing Lakeville north 8-2. The Hornets captured their third Class 2A title in five years and became the first large school to win back-to-back championships since Bloomington Jefferson won three consecutive crowns from 1992-94, the Star Tribune reports.

Edina scored three unanswered goals in the second period to take control of the game.

In Class 1A, East Grand Forks scored five unanswered goals in the second period en route to a 7-3 victory over Hermantown Saturday afternoon at the Xcel Energy Center, the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.

Grant Loven scored one goal and assisted on three others in that stretch to give the top-ranked and top-seeded Green Wave (28-2-1) their first boys hockey championship. The only other time East Grand Forks made it to the finals was in 1999, when it lost to Benilde-St. Margaret's, according to the Pioneer Press.

Hermantown lost its fifth consecutive small-school state championship game, according to the Star Tribune.
