Eden Prairie and Maple Grove duked it out to an instant classic Friday evening in the Class 2A boys' hockey semifinals.
The No. 1 seeded Eden Prairie and No. 3 Maple Grove put on a barnburner at the Xcel Energy Center, with Carter Batchelder striking with 1:02 left in overtime to secure a famous 6-5 win.
The two sides had gone back-and-forth during regulation, and entered the third period tied at 2-2.
What followed was a period that saw each side score three times, which included an insane sequence that saw three goals scored in the space of 21 seconds.
Batchelder's winner sealed his hat-trick and sent Eden Prairie back to the championship game for the second consecutive season. The last time they won it was in 2011.
Eden Prairie will face the No. 3 seeded Lakeville South in the championship game Saturday evening, after Lakeville overcame Wayzata 5-3 in the earlier game.
