A Minnesota native has decided to return to his home state to finish his college basketball career.

Edina's Reggie Lynch announced Tuesday that he will transfer to the University of Minnesota to play basketball for Gophers coach Richard Pitino.

The 6-foot-10 Lynch averaged 9.5 points, 5.4 rebounds and 2.8 blocks per game as a sophomore at Illinois State. According to the Star Tribune, Lynch will have to sit out next season, per NCAA transfer rules, before he will be able to resume playing in 2016-17.

Lynch becomes the second Division I player to transfer to Minnesota during Pitino's tenure – forward Joey King is the other.

The Pioneer Press notes that Lynch made the all-Missouri Valley Conference tournament team this season. He was also a second-team all-conference player during the regular season.

Lynch is the nephew of Gophers alum Kevin Lynch. FOX Sports North, notes that while at Edina Reggie Lynch averaged 22 points and 10 rebounds per game during his senior year, helping lead the Hornets to a third place finish in the class 4A state tournament

Lynch joins four other recruits who signed in the fall – guards Kevin Dorsey, Dupree McBryar, Jarvis Johnson and big man Jonathan Nwankwo. The Star Tribune says that leaves the Gophers with two available scholarships that can be used during the spring signing period.
