ESPN didn't put any MLB or NHL players in its 100 most famous athletes

ESPN's list of the 100 most famous athletes in the world doesn't include any MLB or NHL players.

The list was created by a formula that analyzes each athletes' social media following, internet search popularity and endorsements.

It's a cool bit by ESPN, but there appears to be one glaring mistake. Chinese badminton player, Lin Dan, is No. 88 on the list even though he only has 303,000 Facebook followers.

Dan doesn't have Twitter, Instagram or endorsements, according to ESPN, but he's on the list over baseball stars Bryce Harper and Mike Trout. Harper has 400,000 Facebook followers, 813,000 Twitter followers and more than 1 million followers on Instagram. Trout has 2.26 million Twitter followers, 1.2 million Instagram followers and 463,000 Facebook fans, along with an estimated $8 million in endorsements in 2016, according to Money Nation.

Apparently people search for Lin Dan on Google like crazy, so much so that it puts him ahead of Harper and Trout? Maybe, but it doesn't add up.

Thirteen NBA players, including three in the top 11, made the list. Eleven PGA stars made the cut, including Tiger Woods and his mugshot, but none from the LPGA. Tom Brady led a group of eight NFL players.

No Minnesota athletes made it, although with Kit Kat and Jack Links already under his belt, Timberwolves big man Karl-Anthony Towns seems like a good bet to be on the list in the near future.
