After being snubbed in early November when Penn State came to town, the Gophers are now going to be the center of the college football universe as ESPN's "College GameDay" announced that it will broadcast live from Minneapolis before Minnesota hosts Wisconsin in a border battle for the ages.
Wisconsin (9-2) takes on the Gophers (10-1) next Saturday, Nov. 30 at TCF Bank Stadium. The winner will claim the Big Ten West Division title, take possession of the coveted rivalry axe, and secure a spot in the Big Ten Championship Game against Ohio State (11-0).
GameDay snubbed Minnesota by choosing to broadcast from Tuscaloosa for the No. 1 vs. No. 2 SEC showdown between Alabama and LSU rather than come to Minneapolis for the battle between the then-undefeated Gophers and Penn State. The Gophers won a thriller to stay unbeaten, only to fall at Iowa a week later.
It was the 46th time ESPN had brought the production to Tuscaloosa, while next Saturday will mark the first time the college football preview show has broadcast from Minnesota.
But Minnesota improved to 10-1 – their first 10-win season since 1905 – with a resounding victory over Northwestern.
Details about where College GameDay will broadcast from are yet to be announced, but the scene should be electric leading up to and during the game, which kicks off at 2:30 p.m. next Saturday.
