Among those nearest and dearest to the late Tyler Skaggs was former Twins third baseman Trevor Plouffe, who has paid an emotional tribute to his friend following his sudden death on Monday.
Skaggs and Plouffe were offseason training buddies for the past decade at Pepperdine University in California, with Plouffe playing a part in Skaggs' wedding just 7 months ago.
In a post on Instagram, Plouffe said "you were like a brother to me" of the 27-year-old Angels pitcher, who was found dead in his hotel room in Texas on Monday morning.
"Ty, you were a special person," he wrote. "I have no tears left for you, all my s**t is dry. I love you and I know you knew that. I’m honored to have been a friend. I’m honored to have stood with you at your wedding. We had a lot of good times together but I never saw you happier than that day."
Another of the guests at Skaggs' wedding was current Twins first baseman C.J. Cron.
"This sucks. So, so badly," he tweeted. "It seems like yesterday we were dancing and laughing together on your wedding night. We’ll all miss you brother more than you know. I hate that I’m even tweeting this. RIP Skaggsy."
Also paying tribute to Skaggs is Minnesota Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins, who met the pitcher when the Angels played the Twins at Target Field.
