The winter sports season has been a joy to follow thus far. The only problem with it being winter is that the temperatures have been so warm that Hockey Day Minnesota has been moved indoors. It's another twist in a memorable prep sports year.
5. MSHSL tightens checking rules
The Minnesota State High School League announced Saturday night that hockey referees will be buckling down on three illegal plays. Referees will now enforce five minute majors for illegal hits to the head, boarding and checking from behind penalties.
4. The 'Duke' signs with U of M
Blaine quarterback Duke Anyanwu visited the University of Minnesota over the weekend. Soon after his visit, he accepted a scholarship offer from the Gophers. The 'Duke' likely won't play QB for the Gophers. He tells GophersIllustrated that he's more likely to play H-Back, linebacker or defensive end.
3. No. 1 Eastview earns win over No. 3 Apple Valley
It was a huge South Suburban Conference game between two of the three highest ranked teams in the state. The Lightning, led by 37 points from Drake recruit Joey King, defeated Tyus Jones and the Eagles in front of an overflow crowd, 91-84 last week. Jones scored a game high 39 points in the loss.

1. Duluth East continues trek towards undefeated season
The Greyhounds' dominance over the entire state of hockey is getting more and more impressive. The latest top ten team to fall to the No. 1 team in the state was defending class 2A champion, Eden Prairie. The Greyhounds smacked the Eagles 4-2 in Eden Prairie on Saturday.
