Fans won't be attending this week's 3M Open at TPC Twin Cities in Blaine, but the featured groups for Thursday's opening round should still be a big draw for Minnesotans looking to see how some of the best golfers on the planet perform.
Complete first- and second-round pairings haven't been announced, but Thursday's featured groups have, and they're quite intriguing. Featured groups:
- Dustin Johnson, Tommy Fleetwood, Tony Finau
- Matthew Wolff, Max Homa, Branden Grace
- Bubba Watson, Paul Casey, Pat Perez
- Brooks Koepka, Keith Mitchell, Charles Howell III
The first featured group is completely loaded as Johnson is No. 4 in the World Golf Rankings, Fleetwood is 12th and Finau 17th. Then there's Wolff, who won last year's inaugural 3M Open, with Homa and Grace.
The third group features Watson, a lefty who still hits the ball a mile (sixth on the PGA Tour in average driving distance), along with Casey (ranked 27th) and the 44-year-old veteran Perez.
Group four features Koepka, ranked 6th in the World Golf Rankings, who will likely be seeking to destroy after missing the cut at last year's 3M Open. He's with Mitchell, who finished tied 22nd at last week's Memorial Tournament, and Howell III, who has been a tour mainstay for years, though he has struggle a bit with missed cuts in three of his last five tournaments.
You can see the entire 3M Open field right here. The first round begins at 6:45 a.m. Thursday, and it'll be followed by a scorching-hot weekend as temps in the Twin Cities are forecast to rise into the 90s with extremely humid conditions.
