Files in MSU coach Hoffner's case to remain sealed

A judge in Blue Earth County District Court Friday ordered all files relating to Minnesota State University-Mankato football coach Todd Hoffner's high profile case last year will remain sealed, the Star Tribune reports.

Hoffner was cleared of child pornography charges in November. He was charged in August after school officials with the university IT department discovered videos of his children performing a skit after a bath, the paper says.

Blue Earth County District Judge Krista Jass dismissed the charges against Hoffner, saying the videos were innocent child's play.

Friday's ruling -- also issued by Jass -- came after a request in December where a Twin Cities television station requested access to the files, and Hoffner in turn sued to keep the files sealed.

Jass responded at that time by temporarily sealing the files.

In her ruling to permanently seal the files, Jass said if the files were unsealed, it would "adversely impact the Hoffner family’s right to privacy."

Hoffner was reassigned to an assistant athletic director's position after being reinstated by the University in December after being placed on administrative leave when he was charged in August.
