Fister stifles Twins' bats in 5-2 Tigers win

Detroit Tigers pitcher Doug Fister was winless in his five previous starts, but you'd never know that by the way he handcuffed the Twins on Sunday.

Fister took a no-hitter into the sixth inning, when Brian Dozier's home run put the Twins on the board. But Minnesota managed only three hits in their 5-2 loss to the Tigers.

Former Twin Torii Hunter reached a milestone by hitting the 300th home run of his career. Hunter's blast was his third as a member of the Tigers. As NBC reports, that's a far cry from the 192 he hit during his 11 years with Minnesota.

Major League Baseball has video of Hunter's long ball.

Hunter also doubled to finish with three RBIs. For the Twins P.J. Walters was the losing pitcher, allowing four runs in 5 1/3 innings.

Josh Willingham sat out for the Twins after receiving a cortisone shot Saturday night to treat a sore knee that's been bothering him since April.

Losing two out of three to the Tigers puts Minnesota 7 1/2 games behind Detroit in the Central division standings. They're still two games ahead of the cellar-dwelling Chicago White Sox, who come to town next.

The Twins have a day off Monday before opening their three-game series with the ChiSox, who are riding a four-game losing streak.

Here's Sunday's box score.
