After losing eight straight starts against the Twins, Gavin Floyd finally broke through with a dominant performance Tuesday night, leading Chicago to a 3-2 win at Target Field. Floyd held the Twins to five hits and struck out nine over seven innings.

Liam Hendriks is still winless in his big league career, although he pitched one of his better games as a pro. Hendriks gave up three-runs in 6.1 innings. He made one critical mistake, giving up a long, two-run homer to Alex Rios.

The Twins nearly came all the way back for the win, scoring two-runs in the bottom of the ninth inning. They loaded the bases, and with two-outs Jamey Carroll dumped a 2-run single to short right field. Denard Span grounded out to end the game with the tying run at second base.

The Twins fall back to 8.5 games behind the first place White Sox.
