There are a lot of things going positively for the Minnesota Vikings right now. They won the NFC North Division last year, they're moving into a new $1.1 billion stadium and are being mentioned as a possible Super Bowl contender.

So it's not a big surprise that the team's value is continuing rise, but just how quickly might be a bit shocking.

Forbes ranks the Vikings as the 39th-most valuable professional sports franchise in the world with an estimated value of $1.59 billion.

That is roughly a billion dollars more than the team was worth when Zygi Wilf bought the franchise in 2005. It ranks the Vikings 18th among NFL franchises – behind both Chicago (16th) and Green Bay (25th) in the NFC North.

Here are the top 5 most valuable professional sports franchises, according to Forbes.

  1. Dallas Cowboys – $4 billion
  2. Real Madrid – $3.65 billion
  3. Barcelona – $3.55 billion
  4. New York Yankees – $3.4 billion
  5. Manchester United – $3.32 billion

While the Vikings may not reach this list anytime soon, the franchise's value isn't showing any sign of decreasing either. The Vikings also will move into their new fully-loaded team headquarters in the next few years.
