Former Minnesota Gophers quarterback Philip Nelson is set to visit Rutgers Sunday.

The Star Tribune reports Nelson has an offer from the soon to be Big Ten opponent and will make an official visit there on Sunday.

Rutgers isn't scheduled to play the Gophers until 2016.

Earlier this month, Nelson announced his intentions to leave the Gophers program. At the time, Nelson said he was looking to play in a system that centers more on the passing game and utilizes his skill sets.

The Mankato West product played in nine games for the Gophers, who finished 8-5 and lost to Syracuse in the Texas Bowl in late December.

The Star Tribune says Nelson has been working out in Arizona with Terry Shea, the former Rutgers coach. Shea has also given quarterback instruction to some of the game's best including Robert Griffin III, Sam Bradford and Matthew Stafford.
