Former Gophers quarterback Jacques Perra transferring to St. Thomas

Former Gophers third-string quarterback Jacques Perra will stay in Minnesota and transfer to St. Thomas.

The former Roseville standout made the announcement on Twitter Tuesday.

Perra announced earlier in the month that he would be leaving the U of M. He will have three years of eligibility remaining and because he is transferring to a Division III school, he won't have to sit out a year.

As a senior at Roseville High School, Perra was named Star Tribune Metro Football Player of the Year. That season he threw for 3,171 yards and 35 touchdowns with just four interceptions.

While it looked like Perra might challenge for playing time during spring practice last March, the Star Tribune notes that he entered fall camp with a sore elbow and spent the season third on the depth chart behind Mitch Leidner and freshman Demry Croft.

His only game time for the Gophers came against Purdue on Oct. 10 with the Gophers holding a big lead on their way to a 41-13 win.

Minnesota also added a quarterback when they received a commitment from former Oregon recruit Seth Green.
