Former MN HS hockey player Lisa Marvin skates for 1st time since accident

Lisa Marvin – a former Warroad High School hockey player – took to the ice this weekend for the first time since being seriously injured when she was hit by a car last November.

Marvin was putting gas in her stalled pickup while on Gateway Drive in Grand Forks when her truck was hit from behind by another vehicle.

She was thrown in the air and slammed onto the pavement, resulting in serious injuries to her right arm and right leg. The 2013 Ms. Hockey semifinalist and her doctors wondered if she'd ever be able to play hockey again.

After several surgeries and months of rehabilitation, Marvin has recovered enough to lace up her skates – she skated with family and friends for about 45 minutes on Sunday, the Grand Forks Herald reports.

"It was awesome, it went really well," Marvin told the paper.

In June, Marvin received favorable news from doctors about her knee and she's also regained full mobility in her hand, the Grand Forks Herald notes.

Although she can grip a hockey stick, she still can't pass or shoot without pain due to injuries to her right arm – she'll find out in August if she needs another surgery, the paper adds.

Tristen Johnson, 19, was found guilty of aggravated reckless driving in the accident, and was sentenced back in March to 126 days in jail.
