Former Wild playoff hero Richard Park joins coaching staff

Former Wild playoff hero Richard Park will join the team as a player development coach.

The Wild say Park's primary responsibilities will include working with and assisting in the development of players with the Iowa Wild in the American Hockey League (AHL).

Park, 38, played 14 seasons in the NHL. He recorded 241 points in 738 career NHL games with Pittsburgh, Anaheim, Philadelphia, Minnesota, Vancouver and the New York Islanders.

Park scored 37 goals and tallied 74 points during three seasons with the Wild. He will be best remembered for Game 6 of the Wild's first playoff series against the Avalanche in 2003.

The Wild went on to beat the Avalanche in seven games; then they defeated Vancouver in the second round, also in seven games.

The Seoul, South Korea, native was originally drafted by the Penguins in the second round of the 1994 NHL Entry Draft. He retired as a player after spending the last two seasons playing for Ambri-Piotta in Switzerland (2012-14).

 He begins his new job this week.
