Correia, Twins top Brewers 6-3

Minnesota got clutch hits from the middle of its lineup and starting pitcher Kevin Correia regained his early-season form with six solid innings as the Twins beat Milwaukee 6-3 Monday afternoon.

With shades of what Boston's David Ortiz seems to always do to his old club, former Twin and Milwaukee center fielder Carlos Gomez hit two homers in a game that saw five total in the covered Miller Park. But Joe Mauer and Justin Morneau set the pace early for Minnesota, with the latter singling in the former in the first inning.

Ryan Doumit knocked in Brian Dozier and Mauer with a decisive two-out single in the fifth inning, putting the Twins ahead for good. Mauer and Chris Parmalee each added their fourth homers of the season later in the game, according to the Sports Network.

In additions to Gomez's two dingers, Jean Segura also homered for the Brew Crew. Pedro Florimon continued his recent hot streak for the Twins, going 2-4 with an RBI.

Starting pitching is the main weakness for the 2013 Twins, and Correia has been a rare reliable starter for Minnesota, going six innings, allowing seven hits and three runs while raising his record to 5-4. The Twins' bullpen--Josh Roenicki, Jared Burton and Brian Duensing--pitched scoreless innings the rest of the way, with closer Glen Perkins getting his 10th save.

"We'll take it," Manager Ron Gardenhire told Fox Sports North after the game. "We'll take anything we can get right now."

The Twins are now 20-28 after enduring a miserable first half of May. The series continues Tuesday, then in a bit of MLB scheduling genius, the Brewers come to Target Field later in the week, meaning the only meetings between the two border-battlers in 2013 are on weekdays.
