Former Twins ace Johan Santana to have surgery Tuesday
New York Mets starting pitcher Johan Santana will undergo the knife for the second time in less than three years on Tuesday after re-tearing the anterior capsule of his left shoulder, the Associated Press reports.
The 34-year-old left-hander may have thrown his last pitch for the Mets. He will likely miss the entire 2013 season -- which is the final year of his six-year, $137.5 million contract with New York ball club.
Santana missed the 2011 season following his first shoulder operation. He returned last season and threw the first no-hitter in Mets history on June 1 against St. Louis.
