Former Viking Guion signs with Packers

The Minnesota Vikings have made a habit in recent years of signing several former Green Bay Packers.

The trend started several years ago and has included Darren Sharper, Ryan Longwell, Greg Jennings and Brett Favre to name a few.

The Packers are hoping it works in reverse as well. Green Bay has signed former Viking defensive tackle Letroy Guion.

The Associated Press reports the Packers agreed to a one-year deal with Guion in an effort to continue to bolster their defensive line. Last week, Green Bay also signed former Chicago Bears' defensive end Julius Peppers.

Guion was the Vikings' fifth-round pick out of Florida State in 2008. Guion started 28 games over the last two years for the Vikings. Guion has recorded 90 tackles and five sacks in 68 career games for the Vikings.

FOX Sports reports that Guion never really developed into the run-stuffing nose tackle the Vikings hoped when Pat Williams left in 2011.

Guion had one of the best games of his career in a game the Vikings lost to Green Bay on Oct. 27 when he finished with six tackles.

The Vikings released Guion on March 6, saving nearly $4 million.
