Former Vikings defensive tackle Williams visits Patriots

Kevin Williams asked for a call from the New England Patriots and that's exactly what he received.

The former Vikings defensive tackle is visiting the Patriots on Thursday. Williams has only played for the Vikings in his 11-year NFL career, but they chose not to re-sign the 33-year-old defensive tackle after his contract expired.

After visits with both the New York Giants and Seattle Seahawks didn't turn up an opportunity, Williams had been contemplating retirement, if he wasn't able to find the right deal.

Earlier this week, Williams asked that the Patriots to "look him up," according to USA Today.

Williams recorded 60 sacks in his 11 seasons with the Vikings. He was drafted by the team in the first round of the 2003 NFL Draft out of Oklahoma State.

NESN reports the Patriots have a lot of questions, along the defensive line. They drafted Dominique Easley in the first round and he joins Vince Wilfork, Tommy Kelly, Armond Armstead, Sealver Siliga and Chris Jones.

However, Easley and Kelly are both recovering from ACL injuries, Wilfork is trying to return from a torn Achilles and Armstead missed all of last year with an infection.

According to NFL.com, the Patriots need depth and bulk on their defensive line and Williams, a six-time pro bowler, might be the perfect fit. The team would give Williams another chance to be on a playoff contender,

Pro Football Talk reports that Williams would probably accept a deal that pays him more than the veteran minimum. With only low-value deals remaining, it remains to be seen if the Patriots will budge on the budget enough to make it happen.
