Former Vikings QB Daunte Culpepper faces foreclosure in Florida

Former Vikings quarterback Daunte Culpepper is facing a foreclosure lawsuit in Broward Country in South Florida, the Star Tribune reports.

Citing a report in the South Florida Business Journal, the paper says Culpepper was named in a foreclosure lawsuit over his 9,876-square foot home.

The home, the Journal says, is apparently not his main residence.

According to the Journal, SunTrust Bank filed the lawsuit against Culpepper and his wife on Feb. 26, alleging that Culpepper wasn't paying his mortgage.

Culpepper was the Vikings' No. 1 pick and 11th pick overall in the 1999 NFL Draft. He was named All-Pro three times and in 2004, finished runner-up to then Indianapolis Colt Peyton Manning for NFL MVP after throwing for a league-leading 4,717 yards.

Culpepper signed a $102 million contract with the Vikings in 2003, which included a $16 million signing bonus. He didn't receive all of the money, mainly due to a devastating knee injury in October 2005 game against the Carolina Panthers.

The quarterback -- who attended the University of Central Florida -- was traded to Miami before the 2006 season. Receiving a $7 million signing bonus, Culpepper only played four games for the Dolphins before being put on injured reserve. He was released at the end of the season.

Culpepper tried to make a comeback after that with Oakland Raiders and Detroit Lions, where he finished his NFL career in 2010.

He also played for United Football League’s Sacramento Mountain Lions in 2010, and worked out for the San Francisco 49ers in 2011, but didn't make the final cut.
