An accomplished Minnesota high school hockey player who now plays for the University of North Dakota is recovering after she was hit by a car, the Grand Forks Herald reports.

Lisa Marvin, a 20-year-old former Warroad forward who was a 2013 Ms. Hockey semifinalist, was putting gas in her stalled pickup while on a Gateway Drive in Grand Forks around 1:20 p.m. Monday when her vehicle was hit from behind by a moving car, InForum reports.

Marvin was thrown in the air and slammed onto the pavement, resulting in a "shattered" elbow and shoulder that required three hours of surgery and two metal plates to fix, the paper reports. But there is also nerve damage disrupting movement of her right hand, and she'll need at least two more surgeries – one of them to reconstruct her right knee, InForum reports.

Two people were cited for misdemeanors in connection with the accident.

Authorities say Tristan Johnson, 18, was driving the 1999 Chevy Cavalier that struck Marvin's stalled vehicle; he's cited for aggravated reckless driving and could face up to a year in jail and up to a $3,000 fine, the Grand Forks Herald says.

Another 18-year-old was also cited for aggressive driving.

Lisa's family's hockey roots run deep.

She plays with her older sister, Layla Marvin, on the UND squad.Their father, David Marvin, is the head coach of the Warroad girls high school hockey team. And her cousin is Gigi Marvin, a member of the U.S. national team that won the silver medal in the Sochi Olympics.
