Future Gopher Daniel Oturu tosses Duke-bound Tre Jones as emotions run high at state tourney

Emotions were running high between two of the state's top recruits.

A fight nearly broke out between the two of the best players in the state when future Gopher big man Daniel Oturu of Cretin-Derham Hall tossed 5-star Duke-bound Tre Jones of Apple Valley to the ground after Jones' aggressive slap at the ball late in the first half of the Class 4A championship game.

Jones' brother Tyus Jones, who had 11 points, 6 assists, 3 rebounds and 3 steals in the Wolves' 120-108 road loss to the 76ers Saturday night, sent out a tweet suggesting that Oturu should've been ejected.

Apple Valley head coach Zach Goring told Channel 45 that "competitive spirits" got the best of them.

Both Oturu and Jones are finalists for the Minnesota Mr. Basketball Award.
