New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva standout Carlie Wagner was named the Minnesota Associated Press Player of the Year, in girls' basketball.

Wagner, who has committed to the University of Minnesota, led the Panthers to an undefeated 31-0 record and a second consecutive state Class 2A Championship.

She put an exclamation point on her career by breaking her own record of 129 points during a state tournament when she scored 130 in this year's tournament.

Wagner put up 53 points in the quarterfinal game on Wednesday against Pequot Lakes. She then dropped 41 on Howard Lake-Waverly-Winstead in the semifinals. Then Saturday, in the championship game, Wagner posted 36 against Kenyon-Wanamingo.

The Panthers also scored a record 248 points in three tournament games. Breaking a record previously set by Rochester Mayo in 1997.

Wagner finished her career with 3,957 points, including 371 in state tournaments, which is the most in Minnesota girls history.

Wagner was named first team all state. She was also joined by Minneapolis Washburn's Chase Coley, Bloomington Kennedy's Kenisha Bell, Eastview's Madison Guebert and Park Center's Cayla McMorris on the All-State first team.
