Twins win game one, lose game two of doubleheader with Marlins

MINNEAPOLIS -- Oswaldo Arcia hit a three-run homer, and Kevin Correia (2-1) pitched seven strong innings to lead the Twins to a 4-3 win over the Miami Marlins (4-16) Tuesday at Target Field, in Game 1 of an Interleague day-night doubleheader.

For Arcia, it was his first major league homer, and gave the Twins a 4-2 lead after falling behind, 2-1.

Twins leadoff hitter Brian Dozier, who tripled and scored in the first inning, had three hits on the day.

The win was the fifth-straight for Minnesota (9-7), matching their longest winning streak of the 2012 season.

Game 2 Recap

Twins starter Mike Pelfrey (2-2) was roughed up and the Marlins (5-16) took the nightcap by a score of 8-5.

He allowed five runs on nine hits in just 4.2 innings pitched. Everything he threw was hit hard by the Marlins, including a two-run double by Rob Brantly, highlighting a three-run first inning.

Brantley finished with three hits, including a pair of doubles and four runs batted in.

Joe Mauer's RBI single highlighted a three-run third inning for the Twins, cutting the deficit to one.

Miami responded with a run in the sixth, two more in the seventh and another in the eighth to go on top, 8-4.

Eduardo Escobar led the Twins going 3-3 with a triple and two runs scored. He doesn't play everyday, but he's hitting .480 this season.

Minnesota (9-8) has Wednesday off before opening a four-game series against the Texas Rangers on Thursday at Target Field.
