For hockey fans, this is an idea whose time has finally come.

A summer pro hockey league, 4-on-4 style, played for charity and free of NHL restrictions (at least so far) will begin facing off tonight.

Braemar Arena in Edina is home ice for the new Da Beauty League that will have games on Tuesday and Thursday nights through early August. You can see NHL stars like never before and in a very intimate setting. Stars like Alex Goligoski, Zach Parise, Nick Leddy and Dustin Byfuglien, to name just a few, are confirmed to be playing.

There are six teams that make up Da Beauty League. Hockey insider Michael Russo writes that all of the Da Beauty League basics, such as rosters, ticket prices, schedules and start times can all be found on their website –

Tickets are just $5 per game or $25 for the season.

One of the big winners will be children of military personnel deployed overseas as Da Beauty League is donating game proceeds to charity. Those charities include the new United Heroes League, which used to be called Defending The Blue Line. It has become a favorite charity among hockey players and teams.
