The Minnesota Twins beat the Houston Astros 3-1 on Wednesday to take two of three games in Houston.

Kyle Gibson (11-9) gave up one run as he pitched into the eighth inning. Gibson gave up just six hits while walking two and striking out four.

He has had a lot of luck against the Astros, Gibson has given up just one run in 14 2/3 innings against the Astros this season.

Casey Fien got the final out in the eighth and Glen Perkins worked a scoreless ninth for his 30th save.

The game was scoreless until the top of the sixth inning when Joe Mauer hit his third home run of the season, to give the Twins the lead. The home run was one of two hits for Mauer to extend his hitting streak to 15 games.

The Twins added to the lead in the eighth on a two-run single by Kennys Vargas. Vargas finished 2-for-4 on the afternoon with the two RBIs.

Danny Santana also had a big day for Minnesota he was 4-for-5 and scored a run.

The day though really belonged to Gibson once again. He had some help on the day, a diving stop by Mauer at first and a key double play in the seventh inning helped to thwart a couple of Astros opportunities.

Finally Houston got to Gibson in the eighth. Chris Carter continued to swing a hot bat for the Astros as he singled in their only run of the game.

The Twins are off Thursday, they return home on Friday to start an 11-game home stand against Kansas City and former Twins slugger Josh Willingham.
