Girls' basketball tournament: Hopkins, DeLaSalle, Maranatha Christian Academy defend titles; Providence Academy also wins
Hopkins defended its Class AAAA title by beating Osseo 77-55 Saturday night at the Target Center. It's the Royals' fourth state title since 2004.
Third-seeded DeLaSalle defeated top-seeded Richfield with a 65-45 victory in the Class AAA state championship game. Islanders junior guard Allina Starr had a game-high 24 points.
Providence Academy scored a 46-40 victory over Sauk Centre in the Class AA state championships. Forward AnnMarie Healy led Providence Academy with 18 points; forward Macy Weller led Sauk Centre with 14 points.
Maranatha Christian Academy took down Mountain Iron-Buhl 49-37 to repeat as Class A state champs. Mountain Iron-Buhl had been seeking to become the first Iron Range school to win a title since Chisholm in 1984.
