Girls' Hockey Tournament: Edina, Hill Murray pick up shutout wins

Hill-Murray remains unbeaten after they blanked Sartell-Sauk Rapids 5-0 Thursday in their Class 2A quarterfinal at the girls hockey tournament.

It was a Pioneer attack featuring 50 shots on goal that overwhelmed the Storm'N'Sabres Thursday evening at the Xcel Energy Center.

Hill-Murray had five different players score their goals, and 11 players tallied at least one point in the contest.

Maple Grove scores three times in the third to beat Lakeville

The Maple Grove Crimson scored three goals in the third period to beat Lakeville South 4-1.

Crimson senior forward Laura Kaufman had a four point night to lead Maple Grove into the semifinals. Kaufman had a hat trick, including an empty netter in the third period.

The Crimson advanced to the semifinals to face top seed Hill-Murray in the semifinals, Friday night.

Edina survives battle from Eastview

Edina sophomore Emily Oden's 19th goal of the season with 7:44 remaining in the third period broke a scoreless tie and proved to be the game winner as the Hornets beat Eastview 1-0 in the Class 2A quarterfinals.

Edina goaltender Anna Goldstein took care of the rest, she stopped all 17 shots she faced in the shutout victory.

The Hornets outshot Eastview 34-17 Thursday afternoon, but Lightning goaltender Emma Tschida kept her team in the game with 33 saves.

Edina will face Eden Prairie in the semifinals on Friday.

Late run lifts Eden Prairie over Forest Lake

A pair of goals midway through the third period just 1:14 apart proved to be the difference-maker as Eden Prairie beat Forest Lake 4-2 Thursday in the 2A state quarterfinals.

Becca Kniss scored the game-winner at the 6:48 mark of the third period, then Rachel Werdin added the insurance goal just moments later.

The teams alternated goals through the first two periods, but in the third the Eagles pulled away with the late goals.

Eden Prairie will meet Edina in the 2A semifinals Friday night.

Class A also resumes play on Friday with the semifinals:
