Class 1A action is in the books after the day one of the girls' hockey State Tournament, and Class 2A quarterfinals are underway at the Xcel Energy Center.

In Class 1A, The Blake School, Red Wing, St. Paul United and East Grand Forks all advanced to the semifinals, which will take place Friday.

Blake (21-7-1) advanced with a 3-2 win over Alexandria. They'll meet Red Wing (23-6-0), who defeated New Ulm 7-2 in the semifinals. The other semifinal matchup features No. 1 seed East Grand Forks (25-2-1), who crushed Litchfield/Dassel-Cokato 8-1 in the first round, against St. Paul United, which pulled a slight upset with a 5-2 win over Proctor/Hermantown.

The Blake School has a wonderful story, with many of its players being extremely young.

“Half the team is seventh, eighth and ninth-graders,” head coach Shawn Reid told MNHockeyHub. “I’m just very impressed with the poise they have played with all year long.”

In Class 2A, Hill-Murray sent Burnsville to the consolation bracket with a 4-1 win. Andover pressured Eden Prairie throughout a competitive third period but the Eagles were able to hang on for a 4-2 win. Tonight's games feature Lakeville North against Mounds View and top-seed Benilde-St. Margaret's against Roseau.

The 1A state title game will be played at noon on Saturday, with the 2A championship closing the girls' high school season later that night at 7 p.m.
