The opening weekend of Gopher hockey on both the men's and women's sides went as expected, with the U of M tallying three victories in three contests.

On Friday, the Gopher women put up three goals, and Saturday saw them explode offensively, finding the back of the net eight times in their victory.

Junior Rachael Bona put up seven points over the weekend, leading Minnesota in the category, while Rachel Ramsey and Maryanne Menefee also put up two goals.

With the wins, Minnesota now has 51 consecutive victories, improving on their own NCAA record.

For the men, their only exhibition game of the 2013-14 season went smoothly, albeit a bit more physical than expected, scoring a 5-1 win over Lethbridge of Alberta, Canada.

Freshman Hudson Fasching and juniors Travis Boyd and Ben Marshall had two points each for Minnesota, and they pulled away from their Canada West Conference foe after the score was knotted at one in the second period.

Gopher starting goaltender Adam Wilcox played the first period, stopping all four shots he faced, before being replaced by backup Mike Shibrowski.

The Gopher men's squad hosts the Ice Breaker Tournament next weekend at Mariucci Arena to open their regular season.
