It's looking more and more likely that Lindsay Whalen's Golden Gophers squad will be a force in college basketball for years to come, with Whalen landing a 5-star recruit on Wednesday.

Alexia Smith, from Columbus, Ohio, committed to the University of Minnesota late Wednesday night, making her announcement on Twitter

"I wanted to choose a school that not only respects my game on the court but also my academic ability and that will prepare me for the real world," wrote Smith.

"I want to thank all the coaches that have recruited me and seen my potential as a player but, with that being said I have decided to continue my academics and athletic career at the University of Minnesota."

ESPN touts Smith as a 5-foot-8 point guard who is ranked 46th in the country in the Class of 2020.
