Quest for three continues; Gophers rally past Badgers

The Gopher women's hockey team will play for their third straight national championship. The Gophers came back to beat Wisconsin 5-3, Friday, in the national semifinals.

Trailing 3-2 heading into the third period Minnesota rattled off three unanswered goals to keep the hope for a three-peat alive.

Hannah Brandt scored on a power play for the Gophers to even the score at 3. Then at the 8:06 mark of the third, Rachel Bona found the net to give the Gophers just their second lead of the game.

Minnesota was efficient on the power play, they scored on two of their three power play opportunities.

Baylee Gillanders added the insurance goal late to secure the win.

Brandt finished with a goal and an assist in the game for the Gophers. Dani Cameranesi had a pair of assists.

Despite giving up three goals Amanda Leveille did a nice job in net. She kept the Gophers in the game with 34 saves. Minnesota was outshot 37-28.

According to the Star Tribune, Minnesota is 25-0-1 since having its record-breaking 62-game winning streak snapped by North Dakota on Nov. 17. Friday's victory was their 11th straight win against Wisconsin.

The Gophers will play for their third straight national championship on Sunday against the winner of of Clarkson and Mercyhurst.
