Gophers add 4-star safety out of Michigan to 2015 recruiting class

Jerry Kill's University of Minnesota football teams aren't built around four- and five-star recruits; they're built around a bunch of three-star players and athletes who don't have a letter from every major college in the country.

But Kill and the Gophers bagged a four-star player on Wednesday night when 6-foot-2, 195-pound safety Dior Johnson verbally committed to play for the Gophers just one day after de-committing from Wake Forest.

According to the Star Tribune, Kill and defensive backs coach Jay Sawvel had an in-home visit with Johnson in his hometown of Southfield, Michigan, on Wednesday night. Johnson is the high school teammate of defensive back Ray Buford, who committed to the Gophers in December. Kill and Sawvel met with Buford on Wednesday, too.

WCHB News in Detroit called Johnson a big hitter who knows how to tackle and make plays.

Johnson also looks like a really talented wide receiver in highlights from

Johnson is the first four-star recruit in Minnesota's 2015 recruiting class, based on Rivals' rankings. Twenty-three players have committed thus far. Johnson is a three-star player on ESPN's Recruiting Nation.
