The Gopher hockey team beat St. Cloud State 4-1, on Friday night in the first round of the North Star College Cup.

It was another great night for Minnesota's Adam Wilcox. The Gopher net minder made 38 saves, and again found a way to get Minnesota a win on a night when they were outshot, 39-29.

The Gophers (18-2-3) were able to get the win by being efficient on the power play. Minnesota converted both of their power play chances on Friday.

Travis Boyd and Hudson Fasching each posted a goal and an assist in the game.

Boyd actually put the Gophers on the scoreboard first. His goal allowed Minnesota to covert their first power play goal of the night. Fasching picked up the assist.

It didn't stay that way for long as St. Cloud State's Jonny Brodzinski evened the score at one. It stayed that way until the end of the first period.

The Gophers broke the tie towards the end of the second, when Nate Condon put Minnesota on top 2-1 with a goal off of assists from Mike Reilly and Sam Warning.

Fasching gave the Gophers a two goal lead moments later, putting Minnesota up 3-1.

It looked like it might stay that way until the game's final 30-seconds when Seth Ambroz picked up a power play goal in the game's closing seconds.

The Gophers will meet up with Minnesota Duluth who defeated Minnesota State-Mankato 5-4, in overtime.
