Gophers running back David Cobb met with teams and the press during his second day at the NFL Scouting Combine Thursday.

Cobb ran for 1,626 yards and 13 touchdowns last season and was one of three Gophers invited to participate in the combine.

He is part of a deep group of running backs in this year's draft that includes Wisconsin standout Melvin Gordon, Georgia's Todd Gurley, Ameer Abdullah of Nebraska, Jay Ajayi of Boise State, Duke Johnson of Miami and Tevin Coleman of Indiana.

Cobb showed well at the Senior Bowl when he competed against the group.

"I have the biggest chip in the world on my shoulder, I like to compete and I'm very confident," Cobb told reporters Thursday. "Getting out there against Abdullah and Langford, it was just great."

He also put up 145 yards and three touchdowns in Minnesota's 31-24 loss to national champion Ohio State.

At 5-foot-11 and 229 pounds, Cobb is a physical runner who can run both inside and outside of the tackles. He also catches the ball well. He's been projected as a third round pick.

When asked if he could see himself staying in Minnesota and playing for the Vikings?

It's hard to say if something like that would happen, but Vikings coach Mike Zimmer said Thursday the team does not expect to sign a free agent running back and would prefer to add one through the draft.
