A 23-19 road loss to Iowa wasn't backbreaking by any means, but it did send the Gophers falling two spots in the latest College Football Playoff rankings, which are used to determine the top four teams in the country that will compete for a national championship.

Entering the week at No. 8 in the rankings, Minnesota fell to No. 10.

  1. LSU (10-0)
  2. Ohio State (10-0)
  3. Clemson (11-0)
  4. Georgia (9-1)
  5. Alabama (9-1)
  6. Oregon (9-1)
  7. Utah (9-1)
  8. Penn State (9-1)
  9. Oklahoma (9-1)
  10. Minnesota (9-1)
  11. Florida (9-2)
  12. Wisconsin (8-2)
  13. Michigan (8-2)
  14. Baylor (9-1)
  15. Auburn (7-3)
  16. Notre Dame (8-2)
  17. Iowa (7-3)
  18. Memphis (9-1)
  19. Cincinnati (9-1)
  20. Boise State (9-1)

While it's a long shot, there's still a chance the Gophers can skyrocket into the top four, but it would likely require them beating Northwestern this Saturday, Wisconsin on Nov. 30 and then taking down Ohio State or Penn State in the Big Ten Championship Game.

Despite the drop in the rankings, Minnesota is still projected by many to represent the Big Ten in the Rose Bowl.

Up next: Gophers at Northwestern, Saturday at 11 a.m.
