Gophers: Quarterback controversy or dual-threat delight?

The brewing quarterback controversy for the Gophers might be nothing more than a dual-threat attack that head coach Jerry Kill likes to employ.

When Kill was coaching at Northern Illinois, he used two quarterbacks -- Chandler Harnish and Jordan Lynch.

Harnish was the passing QB and Lynch was the running QB. Philip Nelson and Mitch Leidner could play similar roles this season for the Gophers, according to FOX Sports North.

"I think that's what he's trying to build his program around," Nelson said of Kill's dual QB attack at Northern Illinois. "Those two reminded him a lot of competition. He tells us all the time how they thrived off of each other and that's what made them great."

That said, Leidner says he's going to do "everything I can" to grab the No. 1 QB spot.

Offensive coordinator Matt Limegrover told KFAN that's it too early to call it a QB controversy.

The Gophers are picked to finish last in the Legends Division, according to the Star Tribune.
