Minnesota's second best talent in the Class of 2016 is staying at home to play for the Gophers.

Minneapolis North quarterback Tyler Johnson on Sunday announced his commitment to play for Jerry Kill and Minnesota.

"Growing up in Minneapolis, Minnesota was a dream school for me," Johnson said in an interview with GopherDigest.com. "I always went to all of their camps as a kid and it just was the place for me. I felt very comfortable there and when I was talking with my parents over the weekend and I told them that Minnesota was where my heart was and that's where I wanted to go."

247 Sports says Johnson picked the Gophers over Iowa, Iowa State, Wisconsin and North Dakota State.

The 6-foot-2, 185-pound athlete has guided Minneapolis North to an 8-0 record entering the section playoffs. He has 21 touchdowns and only 2 interceptions this season, according to MNFootballHub.com.

According to KSTP's Darren Wolfson, the Gophers recruited Johnson as an athlete because he can also play wide receiver and defensive back.

Johnson, a three-star recruit by Rivals, ESPN Recruiting Nation and 247 Sports, is ranked as the second best senior player in Minnesota this year behind Eden Prairie defensive standout Carter Coughlin, who also is headed to the Gophers.

Johnson is the tenth Minnesota recruit to commit to the Gophers, the Star Tribune reports.
