A big win Sunday for the Gopher football program as they received a verbal commitment from 4-star recruit Daniel Jackson.
Jackson, a 5-foot-11, 185-pound wide receiver from Mission, Kansas, picked the Gophers over offers from Wisconsin, Iowa, Notre Dame, Iowa State, Arizona State, Kansas, Missouri and Texas A&M, according to 247 Sports.
247 Sports notes that Jackson was thought to be headed for Wisconsin or Notre Dame before Minnesota jumped in.
"This really is a special place," Jackson tweeted after visiting the University of Minnesota in mid-June.
Jackson didn't play football during his junior season of high school because of a knee injury, but he helped lead Bishop Miege High School to a state championship in 2017 when he hauled in 54 passes for 1,270 yards with 16 touchdowns, according to Recruiting News Guru.
When asked what college coaches like about his game, Jackson told Guru:
“They like my speed and how I can be useful in many ways. Some college coaches see me as an outside receiver and some see me as an inside receiver. I’m not the tallest receiver but I can jump with the tall ones, they like that. They like my explosiveness and how I can get away from a defender.”
