Gophers: Leidner could start in place of injured Nelson

While nearly all of the attention on the Gophers football team is locked in on head coach Jerry Kill's sideline seizure during Minnesota's win over Western Illinois on Saturday, the developing quarterback controversy has taken a back seat.

But when it comes to winning on the field, the QB situation is developing quickly.

The latest from 1500 ESPN has starting quarterback Philip Nelson at 65-to-70 percent healthy following a hamstring injury that forced him to sit the majority of the win over Western Illinois.

That means backup QB Mitch Leidner looks like the front-runner to start this week's game against San Jose State.

FOX Sports North's Brian Hall writes that Leidner proved his worth with a solid game in place of Nelson.
