Gophers hold off Nebraska-Omaha for 10th win

A strong effort by Minnesota's backcourt was enough to hold off a ferocious three-point attack and the Gophers defeated Nebraska-Omaha, 92-79 Friday night at Williams Arena.

DeAndre Mathieu led the Gophers with a game-high 27 points on 8-10 shooting and Andre Hollins racked up 18 points and 10 rebounds, and he became the 38th player in Gopher history to eclipse the 1,000-point mark for his career.

As the Pioneer Press reported, Hollins is the second Gopher in the last week to reach the 1,000-point club. Austin Hollins did so in Minnesota's win over Coastal Carolina.

Austin Hollins scored 10 and Malik Smith connect on five three-pointers en route to 19 points off the bench for Minnesota, which shot 9-23 from three in the game.

Nebraska-Omaha, led by a pair of former Minneapolis metro-area high standouts, hit 10 three-pointers (all in the first half) to keep the game close.

Marcus Tyus of Anoka scored 11 points and former Henry Sibley forward Mike Rostampour added six points and five rebounds for the Mavericks.
