Minnesota Gophers 41

Purdue Boilermakers 13

Minnesota got its offensive train rolling against the Boilermakers, scoring 28 unanswered points just in the third quarter to dominate Purdue 41-13 Saturday afternoon at Ross-Ade Stadium. That was more points than the Gophers have scored in any of their previous five games.

1) Shannon Brooks set the tone

Running back Shannon Brooks had several key runs during the game, most notably this 71-yarder on the second play from scrimmage in the second half.

Brooks also had a key run in the second quarter after a Jalen Myrick interception gave Minnesota the ball on the Purdue 37-yard line. Brooks broke away for a 24-yard run but was tackled just short of the goal line. Mitch Leidner then scored on a quarterback sneak. Brooks ran for 176 yards on the day.

2) Jalen Myrick with two picks

Jalen Myrick had two interceptions, including a pick-six that he returned 27 yards for a touchdown in the third quarter.

3) Lingen scores two TDs

Gophers' tight end Brandon Lingen caught two touchdown passes on two consecutive drives in the third quarter. The first was a three-yard pass; Lingen was wide open after a perfect play-action by Leidner. On the next drive, Leidner hit Lingen in almost exactly the same spot on a 17-yard toss.
