Gophers receive commitment from highly touted high school kicker

Hey, kickers deserve some recognition, too.

Among the new high school recruits to commit to the Golden Gophers for the 2019 season is Camden Lewis, one of the top-ranked kickers in the country.

Lewis is ranked fifth in the country in the Class of 2019, according to the Chris Sailer kicker rankings and sixth overall by Kohls Kicking

Cam is a big time kicking prospect," the Chris Sailer profile on Lewis says. "A great athlete with elite leg strength. He hits an excellent ball off the ground. He is smooth and accurate with D1 college range. Kickoffs are outstanding and near the very top of his class, D1 ready."

It goes on to say that Lewis "drives the ball well and gets big hang time" and "does extremely well under pressure."

The only other offer Lewis had received was from East Carolina, which is closer to his hometown of Cornelius, North Carolina.

The Gophers currently have the 20th-ranked recruiting class in 2019, according to 247 Sports.
