Gophers safety Damarius Travis 'very questionable' for Colorado State

It looks like a key member of the Gophers defense may not be available when Minnesota travels to Colorado State on Saturday afternoon.

Gophers coach Jerry Kill told reporters after practice Wednesday that safety Damarius Travis is 'very questionable' to play on Saturday afternoon. Kill didn't elaborate on Travis' injury, but the senior limped off the field in the fourth quarter of Minnesota's season-opening loss to TCU.

Travis has played in 40 consecutive games with the Gophers. He has never missed one in his Gophers career. The Pioneer Press reports that Travis had a team-high 10 tackles in the TCU game.

"There are about three or four (players) on defense that got to get healed up," Kill said Wednesday. "You got to be lucky sometimes and stay healthy, and right now we haven't been able to do that."

The news comes at a tough time for the Gophers defense, which will be tested by a high-powered Rams offense that put up 65 points last week against Savannah State. Colorado State has beaten a power five conference team in each of the last three seasons.

If Travis is unable to go, possible replacements for him could include junior college transfer Ace Rogers or sophomore Adekunle Ayinde – both of whom saw action against TCU.
