Gophers running back Shannon Brooks was booked into Hennepin County Jail early Sunday morning on allegations of domestic assault.

According to Minneapolis police, officers were sent to the 600 block of 15th Avenue Southeast around 1:30 a.m. on a report of a domestic abuse situation. Brooks was booked into the jail at 2:39 a.m., according to jail records.

Further details about the incident are unknown, but a woman identified by others as Brooks' girlfriend, posted a message on Twitter saying Brooks was involved in a fight with another male.

"At this point, with the process unfolding, I’m not able to comment about any aspect of it whatsoever," Gophers head coach P.J. Fleck said in an interview with WCCO radio Sunday morning.

Brooks, a 22-year-old senior recovering from a knee injury, has rushed for 1,728 yards with the Gophers and has scored 20 career touchdowns.
