The once-top 10 ranked Golden Gophers men's basketball team dropped its fourth straight conference game Saturday with a close loss to the Wisconsin Badgers in Madison, 45-44, the Pioneer Press reports.

Wisconsin took the lead 45-43 with 2 seconds left in the game, and the Gophers had a chance to tie when center Trevor Mbakwe was fouled with 1.7 seconds left.

Mbakwe injured his right wrist during the foul, however, and could not shoot, so Rodney Williams took his place. Williams made the first shot but missed the second.

Williams, who has been in a slump, finished the game with 2 points. Andre Hollins led the Gophers with 20.

The Gophers have lost in 14 of their last 15 trips to Madison.

The loss drops the Gophers into a seventh-place tie with Northwestern, who defeated the Gophers earlier this week, 55-48.

The Gophers, who are currently ranked at No. 12 in The AP Top 25, are now 3-4 in Big Ten play and are 15-5 overall.

The Gophers return to Williams Arena Tuesday to take on Nebraska.
